Cinema Erotica returns with The Pillow Book, Peter Greenaway’s hypnotic and visually layered exploration of intimacy, authorship, and erotic imagination.

Nagiko’s desire is shaped by memory. As a child, her father painted words onto her skin, creating a ritual that fused language with pleasure. As an adult, she begins a search for lovers who will write on her body. But when she finds her own voice, the act of writing transforms into something deeper. A story of control, revenge, and sensual autonomy.

Told through fragmented memory, shifting perspectives, and layered visual textures, The Pillow Book is both sensual and cerebral. A film about language, desire, and the need to leave a mark, on bodies, on paper, and in the lives of others.

Join us on Friday 25 July at Thornbury Picture House. Pre-drinks begin at 7 pm. Screening starts at 8:30 pm.

      Seating is limited.
